"....We had to telephone the helpline to receive vague and unconvincing advice on 'biosecurity'..."Like most farming people, I recall very well the start of FMD. Like most experiences which make the body's adrenalin flow, the FMD experience is etched vividly on my memory. Not that I need to rely on memory because I kept all paperwork and documents sent to us. This is why I can testify that Defra's latest claim about the information pack and the clinical pictures is false.
We did not receive this.
We had to telephone the helpline to receive vague and unconvincing advice on 'biosecurity'. In addition, later in the outbreak, during the period when the government came up with the idea (ably assisted by at least one officer of the NFU) to blame farmers' poor biosecurity for the spread the disease, we were all supposed to have been sent a video on the subject. Whilst I am aware that many did receive this, we did not. We are a registered holding, farming sheep and cattle and submit an annual IACS return. There is no reason why we should be missed off any mailing.
No doubt you will receive hundreds of emails like this one.
