I was upset beyond words at the killing of Jean Charles de Menezes (photo attached).
It took me a couple of days to work out why.
All the horror I had felt during 2001 returned: the fear of my own government, and the fear of the appalling randomness of the killing.
Jean Charles was 'Slaughtered on Suspicion'.
We had muttered amongst ourselves during 2001 that a government that held such dis-respect for the lives and well being of animals was unlikely to think much more of its citizens. We meant nothing to them then; We are dust to be blown away.
On a lighter note! :-) ... I read your blog about Elsa's film (which sounded wonderful). I thought you might be interested in a book by Alastair MacIntosh, Soil and Soul: People Versus Corporate Power. It's about his boyhood on the Isle of Lewes and his fight against a super quarry on the Isle of Harris. A wonderful man that I have had the privilege to meet. See Amazon.
