I am sure that you must be aware of DEFRA'S Big Brother in the sky: Satellite mapping of UK farms. It is being used to check out that farmers are following the 'rules' given for Country Stewardship. I hadn't heard of this activity and was most interested to hear that our neighbouring farmer had been visited by an 'inspector' who, apparently, through the Infoterra http://www.infoterra-global.com satellite mapping sytem, was able to spot the number of feeding troughs for ewes and lambs in the field. Poaching of ground by the hoofs of livestock is prohibited, some trampling of earth around the troughs would have provided evidence that the sheep were indulging in this activity, see Country Stewardship information available in large amounts on DEFRA site. Having a look around the internet I understand that farmers are concernced that the 'rings' used for cattle fodder may be verboten. Details of this mapping activity, as usual, is not easy - if not impossible - to find on DEFRA; keying in such a title brings up a zero!
Still what's new?Where will all this madness end and who is able to put some sanity into the mix?Joyce Hughes
