SUMMARY: Deputy chairman of the general union of agricultural associations, Hadir
Al-Abadhi has reported the emergence of a new FMDV strain that showed a clear resistance to the vaccines provided by the veterinary services and that is severely affecting the buffalo populations of the Marshes of Al-Nasiriyah, causing a significant number of mortalities. Outbreaks caused by this new strain have been detected in Kharam Bani Saeed, Al-Islah, AlGhabayish, AlFahood, Al-Tar districts located in the marshes of Al-Nasiriyah. Agricultural associations, veterinary services, animal resources department, and university of Dhi-Qar have released a special report declaring that: prevention and control resources against the new strain are currently ineffective and have failed in reducing the impact of the outbreaks.
