Email received November 23 2009Dear Mary,
This is a follow up to my previous emails regarding TB
We have suffered a TB breakdown in the herd, losing 10% of our cows and bull, having never had a reactor in our farming history. We have now fortunately had two clear tests, so we can trade. Never will farming be the same for us as every TB test is a nerve racking experience that can send you out of business very quickly.
My MP, Dan Norris, had promised me a visit to The House of Commons. Nothing. My MP Dan Norris promised me a meeting with Hilary Benn - DEFRA - to discuss this TB problem. I have requested this twice. NOTHING.
At the same time as this catastrophe hits the farm so does the Regional Spatial Strategy. Housing. Housing for no significant homeless within the West Region but my farm could be decimated by 9,500 houses being built on and around us. We have taken information stands around the area and sent tens of thousands of letters of objection to the RSS to MP's, John Denham Sec of State for Communities and Local Govt. and invited our MP Dan Norris to our Information Days. We held one on Sunday 22nd Nov 2.00pm-5.30pm and he promised to attend. He arrived at 5.50pm claiming he had been told it was 2.00pm-6.00pm. Well, that would have given him ten minutes I suppose. He said he would come. His electorate turned up in their hundreds.
He should have been there to answer questions about why his Government are imposing these thousands of houses on our beautiful Green Belt Land, at present protected by Planning Policy Guidelines.
This man is a menace and even if I were offered a trip to Westminster I certainly would not go with him. I have waited patiently to see if he would 'turn up trumps'. This man is more interested in saving a fox than saving Green Belt Land or saving cows and wild life from the menace of TB.
Kind regards
Jill Britten
