Dear Mary,
"As for DEFRA's most recent "Silver Birch" <>  FMD exercise, we hear via the Veterinary Record that foot and mouth vaccination was once again rejected. The reason?

"no abattoir would take vaccinated animals because the major retailers would not accept them. This problem could not be solved during the exercise..."

So there was never any threat that Blue Tongue might visit these shores? And DEFRA for the reasons stated above never advised the use of vaccination as a precaution against that possibility? And any farmer who was so unwise as to carry out such vaccination found that his stock was unsaleable?

Is DEFRA staffed with idiots, or with people who assume the rest of us are?
